Has HBO ever tried a scifi show?
I've been watching a lot of HBO shows, and I find it odd with the popularity of the genre they have never tried a scifi show or miniseries to my knowledge. I didn't know if I was missing out on something. I just wonder why they have done plenty of historical fiction shows, fantasy, and war productions but never done scifi.
When we say HBO and science fiction we have to remove True Blood from the discussion (some people mentioned this show). Technically True Blood is fantasy... vampires are usually fantasy not science fiction, if you were wondering.
Now, this thread has over 240 responses and I gotta say I was intrigued when someone suggested HBO doing the next Star Trek series. I immediately thought - hells yes! Okay, Star Trek can be family fun, but come on, who wouldn't want to see a R rated Star Trek series. I'm not talking about a whole bunch of sex or naked alien bodies (but yes I would watch that).
I mean they can "keep it real" on all those controversial topics of war, peace, use of technology, democracy, economics, religion, human rights, feminism, xenophobia, and racism in only a way HBO can! Okay, okay, I know Gene Roddenberry might not approve but I would be intrigued to see how HBO might handle a new Star Trek series.
Or I would love to see a HBO series which takes place in a future world, not a dystopia and not exactly a utopia, but a nice technology advanced world. Yes, that would be cool... I don't even care what the plot might be, I just want to watch a series that takes place in the future and not a horrible Mad Max future. Anyway, that's just me.
Anyway, check out the thread and see what other interesting ideas people have about HBO doing a science fiction series.
What type of science fiction series would you like HBO to create?
