Calling from Starbase 66

I was recently invited to officially (oooh, I like the sound of that - I'm official!) join the podcast Starbase 66. I have to say I'm pretty excited about this.

You see I've been a big fan of the show since 2009. The crew is pretty great, you have Rick ("The Admiral") who's boyish giggle and happy vibe always comes across, then you have Karen ("Ro") who I consider the voice of reason, Kennedy's smooth baritone voice who always has something witty to say, and another recent addition Unk, who's expertise on all things space and NASA is always appreciated. And now there is me... not sure what I'll be known for.

So listen up friends, if you enjoy Star Trek, Science Fiction and other wonderfully nerdy things, then listen, subscribe, and enjoy!

This week we discuss the new Star Trek film Into Darkness. It's full of spoilers and analysis. Listen now, you don't have anything else to do anyway.

Saucy feminist that EVEN men like

The cover of LIFE magazine in May 7, 1971... I can kind of blame the text on the clear sexism of the late 60s and 70s... but still...

Now that "saucy feminist" is none other than Germaine Greer. I own her book The Beautiful Boy (2003), an art/history book which discusses how boys have been admired since the beginning of time. It's an interesting read.

Art Reactions: Olympia

Edouard Manet: Olympia, oil on canvas, 1.31×1.90 m, 1863 (Paris, Musée d’Orsay)

I bet you the lady holding the flowers is uncomfortable, probably thinking to herself, "Every morning the same thing with this lady, 'bring me my jewelry and shoes. No, I don't want clothes, I'll be quite fine just like this'."

Book Review: Old Man's War by John Scalzi

Old Man's War by John Scalzi
Rating: 4/5

When you turn 65 years of age you have the option to join the military. Not the military on earth, but the Colonial Defense Forces (CDF) who protect our colonies on various planets from threatening alien species. I know you're wondering, "when I'm 65! But I'll be too old?" Well the CDF has a solution for that, they can make you younger and keep all the wisdom and knowledge of your 65 years!

This is John Scalzi's first novel and I loved it. His writing style was fun and easy, his description of this future world very plausible, and the technology he created was fun and I want my BrainPal installed now (read the book and you will see why).

Great read for all sci-fi lovers.

"Thank you for reminding me I'm not special."

That's okay, no one's special anyway. Seriously, we're all the same... and that ain't that bad.

Book Review: Little Birds by Anaïs Nin

Little Birds by Anaïs Nin
Rating: 3/5

Well, well, well... this collection of erotic tales gives you what you expect from a collection of erotic tales. It's very steamy and I have to admit I enjoyed most of the stories. I will warn you, there is some underage stuff going on in some of the stories that will probably creep you out (I know I was uncomfortable), but I've always wanted to read something by Anais Nin, and well, mission accomplished.

Dear People. I'm sorry I'm not like you. I love reading. I love books. I actually enjoy staying home on a Friday.  I'm different. Learn to accept it.

True story.

Staring Girl

I once knew a girl
who would just stand there and stare.
At anyone or anything,
she seemed not to care.

I feel like that girl.

A man touched me

A man touched me:
his hand... my thigh.

I touched him too:
my fist... his jaw.
